The Meteorological department of Srinagar issues weather forecast till 3rd February and also issues advisory to travelers.

β27th Jan: Partly to Generally cloudy with possibility of Light Snow at isolated higher reaches towards late evening.
β28-29th Jan: Generally cloudy with possibility of light to moderate Rain/Snow at many places.
β 30-31st Jan:Possibility of Light to moderate Rain/Snow at many places.
β1st-3rd Feb:Possibility of Light to moderate Rain/Snow at many places.
β Significant improvement in visibility and rise in Maximum temperature in plains of Jammu Division from today onwards.

1. The system may Lead to temporary closure of roads of higher reaches and important passes like Sinthan pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna & Razdan pass, Zojila etc. particularly during 28-31st Jan.

The most intense part of winter in Kashmir consists of three months, & divided into three parts called the Chilas. The Chillai Kalan, the Chillai Khurd and the Challai Bache.
Since many years there has been more snowfall and cold during chillai khurd and chillai bachcha than during chillai kalan but this year there was no snowfall in plains as well as in higher reaches.
