After a baby girl was born with as many as 26 fingers in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, her family termed her an “incarnation of goddess”. She was born with seven fingers in each hand and six toes in each leg. The infant is being considered an incarnation of Dholagarh Devi, a goddess, by her family.
However, doctors have termed it a genetic anomaly. While it is normal to have 26 fingers, the condition is extremely rare.
The baby girl’s mother, Sarju Devi, is a 25-year-old woman and was 8-months pregnant when she went into labor.
“There is no harm of any kind in having 26 fingers but it is a genetic anomaly. The girl is absolutely healthy,” said Dr. BS Soni.
Meanwhile, the mother’s brother said the family is elated at the baby’s birth and is considering her an incarnation of Dholagarh devi. “My sister has given birth to a baby who has 26 fingers and we are considering it to be the incarnation of Dholagarh Devi. We are very happy,” he said.
The baby’s father, Gopal Bhattacharya, is a head constable in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
